COMMUNITY
GARDENS
The Green Institute has supported programs and initiatives, which promote and preserve green space, community gardening and environmental health in the Twin Cities metro area and Greater Minnesota.
Gardening Matters (formerly GardenWorks)
GardenWorks was incubated by the Green Institute and established with funding from the McKnight Foundation. Since 2005, it has improved the sustainability of over 100 community gardens and facilitated long-term relationships between community gardens and the communities. Having recently established itself as an independent nonprofit corporation, Gardening Matters plans to more agressively address the growing demand for supporting start-up community gardens, backyard food producers and market garden growers.

Gardening Matters will continue to play a supportive role within the expanding network of community gardens by developing resource materials, operating a listserve and organizing forums and events, such as the annual Parade of Community Gardens and the Community Garden Spring Resource Fair.
